<title>Imaginário e espectros da violência no filme O som ao redor (2012), de Kleber Mendonça Filho</title>
<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13664</link>
<description>Imaginário e espectros da violência no filme O som ao redor (2012), de Kleber Mendonça Filho
Roveda, Angela Beatriz
Neighboring Sounds (2012) is a film written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, a film critic and filmmaker from Pernambuco. The film, his first feature-length fiction, brings up recurring themes from his filmography, such as real estate speculation, memory (of people and places, personal and collective), violence and insecurity in urban spaces. Kleber Mendonça's film makes reference to two works by Gilberto Freyre, The Masters and the Slaves and The Mansions and the Shanties. In this way, the director proposes an updating of the themes and structures addressed by Freyre: the slave owner's house, the senzala and the mill. The aim here is to understand how the unease present throughout the film's narrative, both visually and sound-wise, evokes the opacity and veiled racism present in contemporary Brazilian society. To this end, the research's theoretical foundation is based on three authors and their concepts: Gilbert Durand's Anthropological Imaginary; Jacques Derrida's Spectre and Fantology; and Gaston Bachelard's Poetic Space. The specific objectives are: to explore the concepts of the imaginary, spectrality and poetic spaces, to address how Kleber Mendonça's work fits into the tradition of modern Brazilian cinema and represents violence, analyzing the film based on its frames, shots, scenes, soundtrack etc. This research is justified by the curiosity to explore fear and terror in Brazilian cinema and the desire to know and understand part of the country's cultural, social, economic and historical roots through one of its cinematographic works. The research methodology is divided into two parts: bibliographical exploration and film analysis.

Politics are present in everyday living, through positions, opinions and problems that affect the lives of all people. A lot is said about polarization, but little is said about the poles of this polarization in the public sphere: politics, day to day, isn’t usually meaningful to us in its full depth. This research looks to explore the political meanings about black radicalism constructed through the characters of T’Challa and N’Jadaka (Killmonger) in the film Black Panther (2018), seeking to relate the positions expressed by these characters with the political, historical, and social contexts that give them meaning. To accomplish this, the research is based on Discourse Analysis through the perspective of Eni Orlandi, seeking to conceptualize the way in which meanings are created, how language makes meaning to us through the mechanism of ideology in the process of discourse. Understanding the particular quality of discourse in the language of cinema, the research brings the contributions of Vanoye and Goliot-Lété about film analysis and the concepts of Vanegas about semiotic analysis of film, to set out a way to detach the symbolic and cinematographic content of the text, in order to then reconstitute it as a whole in contact with the extra filmic discoursive formations that give it meaning. From these bases comes the construction of an analytic apparatus, seeking to contextualize the history of colonialism through Rodney, the history and political philosophies of liberalism and radicalism through Losurdo, and the philosophies of black revolutionaries through anthologies of their writings organized by Manoel and Landi. To these fundamental readings, a lot of smaller articles about specific themes are added, with the objective to put positions of the liberal and radical fields about these questions on debate. The research uses these contexts to unfold the political meanings that emerge in the analysis of the filmic discourse, revealing displacements, erasures, and substitutions in the path between interdiscourse and the text as it shows itself to be. At the end, it is concluded that Black Panther fundamentally brings up, though in a measured manner, meanings about the ailments of the colonial process, problems still sustained by hegemonic liberal capitalism, but it offers little space for a radical alternative as a solution for these problems. The film constructs in N’Jadaka an undesirable totalitarian figure and favors the reformist alternative of T’Challa, but at the same time creates an opening in the discourse by being sympathetic to the pain of the radical leader.

<description>Return to Oz: o mundo mágico a partir de um transtorno psicológico
Polla, Natália
This undergraduate paper aims to analyse the feature film Return to Oz (1985), dissecting its elements to elucidate the visual and narratological strategies used to build the marvellous land of Oz stemming from Dorothy Gales’ mind. Merging concepts from Psychiatry and Cinema, the work tries to prove the hypothesis that the magical world is an extension of reality, created by a psychological disorder suffered by the main character. The method is film analysis based on the studies of Francis Vanoye, Anne Goliot-Leté, Jacques Aumont and Michel Marie, in addition to the theoretical content based on research and testimonies from psychiatric professionals. There are numerous indications that point to Dorothy's madness, as well as different meanings that can be added onto characters and situations during the film. When examined more deeply, these aspects, even between the lines, appear as concrete

This research seeks to investigate how the breaking of the fourth wall occurs and impacts Fleabag's (created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) narrative. In order to achieve this, the research uses the writings of Anatol Rosenfeld regarding Brecht's theater; Jacques Aumont concepts of the space that the series occupy and the theory concerning enunciation in cinema written by Jost and Gaudreault. With these theories, the research studies how the main character in Fleabag relates to the public

<description>Fragmentos beat em My Own Private Idaho
Silva, Lorenzo Telles da
This research studies the presence of Beat counterculture and literature fragments in the film My Own Private Idaho, directed by Gus Van Sant and released in 1991. To achieve such objective, the present study begins by elaborating the concept of the Beat fragment, which is a intertextual unit coming from such counterculture to compose the analysed film. It is from the theories of intertextuality by Julia Kristeva and from the concept of the encyclopedia by Umberto Eco that the Beat fragment idea is constructed. Then, this research compares My Own Private Idaho with two seminal Beat literature books, On the Road, by Jack Kerouac, and Junky, by William Burroughs, looking for these intertextual fragments. Lastly, it elaborates a general panorama about the Beat presence in the film by Gus Van Sant

<description>A construção das masculinidades das personagens do filme O Farol
Medeiros, Guilherme Decker
This monograph proposes focusing and reflecting on the constitution of masculinities in the culture, especially its representations in cinema. For that, the work analyzes the representations of masculinities in the characters of the movie The Lighthouse – directed by Robert Eggers (2019) – looking at the construction of their images. To address this matter, psychological aspects are approached, as well as the construction of their masculine identities and the strategic use of violence as a mechanism for dominance

Franco, Frederico
“Avant garde in dialogue” proposes itself to understand the movie Wavelength (1967) through its interseccionalities with the minimal art in the United States in the 60s. Studying the theory of the avant garde, the project is divided in three major parts. In the first one, a historical context of the avant garde, minimalism and structural film. The second part, a comparative analysis between the minimal art theory and Snow’s movie, interpreting the formal elements of its mise en scène, beyond the fact to try to understand the movie in question inside the hole artistic carreer of its author, Michael Snow

This research proposes a reflection upon the codes of the representation of reality on the audiovisual production practice, with a focus on the context of the documentary genre and its relation with the animation support. Throughout the research, I approach the characteristics of the historical development of the documentary genre, seeking to expose the historical processes and their consequences on the establishment of a classic documentary tradition. Then, I observe films that surpass this traditional model, exploring their themes while expliciting the subjectivity of the author and of the support, observing the interaction between the documentary practice and different animation techniques, characteristics that blend together in an animated documentary. Along this path, I analyze the characteristics of the procedures commonly used by the live action documentaries and by animated documentaries. I also explore the concepts of representation and reality, intending to observe the influence of the subjectivity, of filmic reality and of realism on the representation of the reality by the cinema. These concepts and themes are applied to the analysis of three films: Guaxuma (2018) by Nara Normande; Persepolis (2008), by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud; and Tower (2017), by Nádia Mangolini
